While it is indisputably accurate for a conservative to believe in the rule of law and oppose illegal immigration, black conservatives must avoid being cajoled into becoming tools used to promote ethnic conflict between black Americans and Hispanic immigrants. Hispanic immigration, whether legal or illegal, should not be a key issue for black conservatives. The fact that some on the black right think it is wise to make black and Hispanic progress a zero-sum game is merely evidence of the addiction that many black conservatives have to mindlessly repeating the talking points of mainstream conservatism.
