Black Republican Ryan Frazier joins GOP Senate race in Colorado

Republican efforts to unseat U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet picked up another option Thursday with well-known politico Ryan Frazier of Aurora announcing his candidacy.

Frazier, 38, is a former Aurora city councilman who ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. House against Democratic incumbent Ed Perlmutter in 2010. He initially announced plans to run against Bennet, before opting to take on Perlmutter. In 2011, he lost a bid to become Aurora's mayor.

Since then he has founded and run a small business as well as co-founding and serving as board president for a charter school, High Point Academy in Aurora, that has a two-thirds minority enrollment. About half the students qualify for free or reduced lunches.
