In May of 2012, Marissa Alexander, a mother, licensed and trained gun owner/CCW permit holder, domestic abuse survivor, teacher and member of a military family, was prosecuted and convicted of three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon without intent to harm for firing a warning shot into the ceiling to deter her abusive husband, Rico Gray, from attacking her in her home on August 1st, 2010.
