2017 British U.K Parliament Election: Meet the Black British Conservative Winners

Meet the 2017 Black Conservative MP winners:  Every black conservative MP  incumbent was re-elected: Helen Grant, Sam Gyimah, Adam Afriyie, and Kwasi Kwarten were all relected. The new Black conservative MP's are Bim Afolami, and Kemi Badenoch.




Winner: Bim Afolami, the Conservative MP candidate for Hitchin and Harpenden has won his seat.

Bim Afolami: A former lawyer, Afolami now works as a senior executive at HSBC. He is a primary school governor, and a support of charities which focus on helping people return to work. He contested Lewisham Deptford in the 2015 General Election, is a former Treasurer of the Bow Group and was Vice President of the Oxford Union. He has previously worked for Howard Flight and for George Osborne.

General election 2017: Conservative Kemi Badenoch wins Saffron Walden with near 25,000 majority


Kemi Badenoch is a Conservative member of the London Assembly. She is the GLA Conservative’s spokesman for the Economy and also sits on the Transport Committee and Policing and Crime Committee.

Prior to the Assembly, Kemi was a director at the Spectator Magazine and before that an associate director at Coutts & Co.

She holds two degrees in engineering and law, from Sussex University and Birkbeck College respectively. She is currently a board member for the Centre for the Study of British Politics and Public Life and for 9 years was a non-executive director for a London housing association. Her other areas of interest include engineering and technology, social mobility and integration. She provides regular mentoring to women who wish to pursue careers in technology.  

Kemi was recently a keynote speaker at The Conservative Progress Brexit conference where she explained her vision for a more united Britain outside of the EU (click here to watch). She has also has spoken at the global TedX speaker series on addressing poverty of ambition when it comes to ethnic minorities.
