Black Republican announces he's in for the Tennessee mayor's race



The Commercial Appeal:

"Saying his priorities begin with making the citizens of Memphis feel that they are part of the city, Mike Williams, Memphis Police Association president, officially announced his candidacy for mayor of Memphis. 
His other priorities include public safety, improving education opportunities for children and possibly reestablishing the city schools charter, he said.
 If elected, he would halt new PILOTs (payments in lieu of taxes) until the program is re-evaluated and he would give PILOT approval to the City Council instead of the Economic Development Growth Engine for Memphis & Shelby County, he said. He would also end or minimize capital improvement spending until debt payments are realigned."
